Most Wednesdays, I want to pull my hair out.  This morning, I got not just a surprise, but a laugh as well.

Over the last half of December, quite a few of our guys headed home for nearly a month.  We temporarily lost eight of our guys, half of which were foremen.  Plus, one had been in a car accident right before Thanksgiving and had broken his foot (the poor guy, he really is a sweetheart).  Why am I telling you this?  Because it means every Wednesdsay I was missing quite a few timecards.

Anyway, this morning as I'm sorting, I discover I'm only missing one - which is a big deal any week.  So, I go and ask Brother #1 (who heads up the coordination of the guys in the field) and asking about the missing employee.  After I ask if he'd worked at all last week, B1 says, "No, he didn't.  And we can't find him, either."

Well, okay then.

B1 then proceeds to tell me that the missing employee has been gone since New Year's.  At first, he thought he'd gone home to Mexico and hadn't been able to get back for whatever reason (he's perfectly legal, but things happen).  Then he heard our missing man had borrowed a car from one of his co-workers who also couldn't find him.  So, the plot thickens, as they say.

I love that we're two weeks in and this is the first you're hearing about it.

That does bring a smirk. I hope all is well, but it does bring a smirk.

That's just how we roll around here. But I agree. I joke about showing up one morning to an empty parking lot and a locked door because no one told me we were taking a day off.

I really do hope that all is well, too. I don't know the guy very well, but he's worked her for quite some time and seems to be a good worker. But yeah, the creative side of my brain is going haywire right now. :)

And now I have the fic prompt of "Dude, there was skittles and a stuffed koala, and then seventeen days later I found my way out of the cave."

Sorry, I'm not sorry?

Does it help to know I'm 363 words in on the number challenge? And craving more coffee because of it?

No, he's asking me questions about stuff we got in the mail. He's telling me that we need a second bill from some vendor in order to bill a customer, and I'm telling him that I haven't seen it come in yet, which is apparently impossible. He opens all the mail and puts everything he wants me to deal with in a folder and gives it to me every morning, only there was no folder this morning.

ANYWAY! He just handed me the folder now, and the top thing in it is the first vendor bill with a note saying that we need the second vendor bill (We've had this convo 3 times today), and the second thing in the folder is the second vendor bill. THEN the third thing is another bill from another vendor with a sticky note of 3 questions. The 4th thing is another bill from the same vendor and has all his answers on it.

I'm TRYING TO WRITE PORN HERE!! (no, not really, but...)

ARGH. That sounds very similar to talking with Patrick, the oldest of the brothers I work for. He talks in circles and never really gives you the information you need. His brother - who has had brain trauma - is easier to converse with most of the time.

Doesn't he know the porn takes precedent?

I don't think that he and I have the same order of priorities when it comes to porn and work.

I'm sure you're right. What do these men know anyway?

You know it's not fair to do that, right? I was expecting a funny end to the tale! You need to at least write one (why let the truth get in the way of a good story) so I can feel like there's closure!

On the other hand, I do hope everything's okay and he shows up in one piece and healthy soon!

OMG, hahaha... I didn't even think about that. My head cannon is that he's sitting at home (either here or in Mexico), having a few cervezas and laughing at us.

Yeah, same here. I don't know where in Mexico his family is, but there are many parts that aren't safe.

Oh, I hope that's true! (and I'm ashamed to admit that I have a very stereotyped image of what that would look like in my head. Either that or it's a scene from some western I saw. *shrugs*) ;-P

I know, and it's the not knowing that makes you worry. I do hope it's a happy ending!

Well, when they caution you not to get off at certain ports during cruises and the news is full of stuff about drug cartels, I can see why you'd have a stereotyped idea. Plus, you're on the other side of the world, too. It's sad because I've always wanted to visit Mexico, but I'm afraid to do it now.

Agreed. Hopefully he'll turn up soon and get back to work.
