Somebody broke my goddamned typewriter!

Yeah, I know, who even has a typewriter these days, right? ME, that's who. And oddly enough, I use it daily here at the office.

I noticed when I got here this morning that the dust cover that goes over the keyboard wasn't where it should be - it was over the top of the typewriter (like where you'd put the paper into it). I thought that odd but thought maybe I'd forgotten to put it back on when I left Friday. No biggie, I put the cover back and started cleaning off my desk. When I went to type a release to go with an invoice, I noticed the paper wouldn't go in. The little piece of metal that holds the paper to the roller/platen/whatever it's called these days, won't stay in position, so I can't wind the paper through.

*headdesk*

I'm praying my contractor doesn't have a fit at handwritten labor and material releases because it's all they're getting until I figure out where the heck I can get a new one. Office Depot and Staples only have this one, very basic model by Royal and I'm rather partial to my Brother typewriters. (God, I sound like a dinosaur, don't I?)

Anyway... carry on, my wayward friends. I had to get this out because I am ticked. It means someone was at my desk when I wasn't here and that bothers me. Even worse is, someone broke the damn thing and didn't say a word. OKay, I'm done. :D

Edit: Apparently my boss was using my typewriter on Friday after I left. He fouled something up, but after a bunch of fiddling, he managed to fix it.

*headdesk x 2*

I can see Zayne doing this to Andy and all hell break loose.

Glad he got it fix.

Totally because Zayne would hold the code key when he meant to hold the alt key and blow the thing up. LOL

Thanks - I was seriously panicking because they're all pretty much discontinued. I found the same model as I'm using on Amazon - used - for $450. I bought this one new for about $200. But... that was like 7 years ago. :D

I miss having a typewriter at work. If for nothing else than envelopes and the forms you are talking about where you just need to type in a name and a dollar figure.

Can you get it repaired? I know repair places are probably more difficult to find than typewriters themselves. Or you might find something second hand at an used office supply store. It is amazing the weird little things you can find out there.

*hugs*

And of course, no one is owning up to having dropped something on it. *sigh*

Right? Even though most printers have an envelopes function, it's never worked all that well for me. And one of my bosses is extremely anal retentive and if the print is the least bit off center he has a fit.

Fortunately, my boss owned up to having used it on Friday and he managed to fix it. He'd done something to it and I don't even know what. I'm just thankful he managed to fiddle it back.

You're right though - it's amazing what you can find when you're looking for someone else! I had no idea how hard it was to find a tailor/seamstress until I needed one for my daughter's choir dress last year. You'd think there'd be a million of them out there, but apparently it's a lost art.

*hugs back*

And you're right - no one will ever admit to anything. :/

I can never get the envelop facing the right direction the first time I print, and the MASSIVE waste of envelopes isn't worth it. I just hand write them, which I hate.

YAY FOR FIXED TYPEWRITERS!!!! THAT IS AWESOME NEWS!

Same here. I tend to split the difference for the companies I mail to often - I print labels using the Avery label maker. But I still find myself typing a ton of envelopes anyway.

Thanks! I was so happy!

One of the women in our finance office had a computer on her desk but also had a typewriter sitting on that L shaped return to one side. She refused to give it up, and did most anything she needed to share/mail on that thing until the day she retired! Next day it was gone - I don't think there are any more in the building. :| I was sorry to see it go.

We are getting a new content production system at work, and my kid producer asked me what product/system we used back when I started in the business. I explained that, well, there *was* no web when I started - and our on-air content production machines were called IBM Selectrix typewriters. He looked at me like I had sprouted a second head, lol.

In college we still only had manual ones in the classroom. :)

Hah! Your old co-worker's setup sounds a lot like mine. And as archaic as it is, I like this little Brother typewriter I have. It's so handy sometimes.

OMG, that sounds like when Taylor was little and had come into the office. I didn't have a computer of my own back then (this was close to 13 years ago) and she looked at the typewriter and asked, "Where's the TV?" Meaning 'where's the monitor' and I almost died laughing. My mom was able to type close to 200 words per minute on an old IBM Wheelwriter. I was always impressed by that.

We had computers by the time I got into college but they were nothing like what we have today. :D

One of my friends uses a typewriter at work. I know her old one broke, I'm assuming she got it replaced.

Hopefully she did. I had a hard time trying to find a new one.

She hasn't mentioned it since so I assume she did. I'd be hearing about it if she didn't.
