I mean, damn, this is a USED BOOK you are requesting, lady.

I've been using PaperbackSwap for 13 1/2 years now and sometimes, people put conditions on their requests. I get it when they ask for a book that's not been in a smoking home or one with pets. Allergies can be awful and I totally understand that. But this? This is a bit much.

The member who has requested Ao Haru Ride, Vol. 6 has put the following conditions on this request:

All books must come from a smoke free home! Have no rips, bent or loose pages/covers/backs(this includes corners), writing, stains, or water damage. Overall I'd like it to be in good to very good condition. Also please make sure that the book spine creases are minor to none for paperbacks, that includes manga, Thank you! :)

How on earth do you read a manga and not crease it? I guess it's a good thing that this one is brand new and has only ever been read by me.

Troy says that people like this are reselling the books and he's probably right. But man. I will say this though - there is one person out there that puts strict conditions on their requests but adds that they're collecting books to send to our soldiers overseas so that is a completely different story. I have no problem making sure it's in the best condition in that case.

Also, I feel like I've whined about this before, but a search didn't show that I'd posted. SOOOOO, if I have, excuse me because it annoys me every time I see this pop up. If it wasn't for the fact I get 75% of my manga from this site, I'd donate my credits (there are a lot of teachers out there that use PBS for their classroom libraries) and say to hell with it. But ugh.

And now, I'm going back to work, back to the reviews I need to write, and hopefully fic by lunchtime. :)

My thought, too, was that she's reselling them or that they are gifts. I would totally say back to her that you cannot meet her conditions.

You know, gifts never occurred to me but if she's gifting them, put that in the conditions. Troy told me to reject her request (I can simply put in that the book doesn't meet her conditions and it'll go to the next person in line), but I need to get rid of some of these so... *sigh*

I have to read H's mechanics fic. I'm so behind.

But it does sound like a thing she's slapped on everything she sends. When I did stuff from half.com I know some of the books were listed as in good condition by sellers and I would completely disagree with that assessment for the one that was covered in chocolate!!!!

Give her that she's been burned and get rid of your book.

YIKES. I've had that buying through the Amazon marketplace on occasion, so I get it.

Yeah, I don't care one way or the other if it helps make space in the house. But it did annoy me. That might be because I'm sick and at my limit already at 10 AM. *shrugs*

I did forget the other manga I had at home. Some of them have smaller print and I need more light to read them and... I don't have that at home. But, I can read one over the course of one lunch hour. Tomorrow maybe. *sigh*
