Do any of you read this series?

I'm asking because I'm currently eyeball deep in book #21 - 21st Birthday. I'm about 230 pages in and really enjoying it. Even Cindy Thomas, the annoying ass Chronicle reporter, hasn't been driving me crazy like she usually does. And then, I read this:

She’d studied the map while at home, and as soon as she’d brought it to Richie, he’d started shaking his head no, saying, “You know I can’t help you with your story. But you are so nosy—”

“Inquisitive.”

“—and I know to lock my phone. Which I forgot to do.”
*

Backstory: the main lead in this series is Homicide Detective Lindsay Boxer. Her partner, Richie Conklin, is Cindy's live-in boyfriend. One of the reasons Cindy annoys me so much is because she pushes both Lindsay and Richie to give her info so she can scoop everyone on these cases. Last book, she even went so far as to get pissed off at Lindsay for not giving her info on an ongoing investigation. I thought that was bad, but now she's snooping through her boyfriend's phone to get a lead? Um...

A few paragraphs later, she confirms it:

From the density of the woodland and the narrow bike trail to her right, she felt as if she was finally homing in on the location that she’d gathered from her quick peek at Richie’s phone.*

I get going the extra mile to get that story before anyone else, but seriously? You're going to invade your boyfriend's privacy and trust for a scoop? Never mind the fact you could be putting his job in jeopardy if you do something stupid and cost him and Lindsay the case. He might be able to convince his captain that he didn't give Cindy the info, but the police chief, the mayor, and the public will be harder to win over.

Anyway... maybe I'm overreacting, but this kind of pushed me over the edge here. Hahaha. Think I'll go finish my banana and leave all y'all alone.

I read the very first one years ago. I kinda lost a bit of interest in James Patterson after I watched his "Masterclass". It explained why he was so freaking prolific, but I wish the person who does most of the work received more credit.

I think he did a lot more of the actual writing back in the early days. Maxine Paetro co-authors this series now. I was hooked by the time I realized he wasn't fully responsible.

Interesting, I'll have to see if I can find that and watch it. If nothing else, at least he's supporting children's literacy.

I like her writing but it seems like she has to put up with a lot, LOL. It must work for her, but still ... it just rubbed me wrong when I watched it. She may have been joking with some of her comments, but I am glad I don't work for him, LOL.

And bravo for his supporting children's literacy :)

I can totally understand that. Especially since I've worked (and still do) for some difficult people.

Agreed. Anything that gets kids to read and helps them succeed is a plus.

I had the audio book for one of them, 3, 4, or 5 I think. Jeremy Renner PIVEN not Renner did some of the reading on it (I really am so shallow). But I haven't read any since.

I know I'm horrible, but maybe she'll get offed! *headdesk*

The first several were the best. SO GOOD. They waver between good and okay now, rarely great. But... I still read. I'm way too invested at this point.

I'm laughing that that misnaming of the Jeremys. And as far as audiobooks go, that is NOT shallow. The right narrator makes all the difference and, if you already like someone's voice, there's a better chance you'll enjoy the book.

Hahaha... if she wasn't part of the Women's Murder Club, I'd hope for that, too. Although, they did kill off one of the original members several books in so... there's a chance?

I must be due for a new Jeremy soon. :P

Did I tell you that I've been listening to another Bosch book that Titus Welliver reads? I love him doing both Mickey's voice and Bosch's.

I hope she gets better for you!

I think we all need a Jeremy in our lives. Currently, my co-worker's 22-year-old nephew, named Jeremy, is working for us. I'll stick with him. He's a sweet kid.

No! But I knew he read some of the books. I'm glad that he's a good narrator.

Doubtful, but I know that some drama with her happens at the end because of the prologue. Hahaha.

Also: nitpicky, but it annoys me when authors can't get little things right. It's not LVPD, it's LVMPD and IF YOU HAD TAKEN THREE SECONDS TO GOOGLE LAS VEGAS POLICE YOU'D KNOW THIS. Okay, sorry. Major pet peeve of mine.

I need to go clean the office. Maybe that will make me feel better. Hahahaha.

OH!!! That would tick me so much! The movies and TV and books were people go to the DMV in Massachusetts! ARGH! We don't have a DMV! We have a Registry of Motor Vehicles. It's "The Registry" if you are old school like me, or the RMV. But there is no D! HA!

Happy Friday!

EXACTLY! Things that don't actually matter but bug you so much!

One that really stood out to me was when the author had this young police officer going to the Fashion Show Mall (on the Strip, 97% high end stores) to buy clothes. Um... honey? No way he can do that on Metro's salary, sorry. LOL

Happy Friday! A vendor brought pizza so bonus! (RIP my nutrition for the day though.)

That can get annoying.

In Maryland it is DMV, but Texas it's DPS, Department of Public Safety. Yes, the same department that gives us the Texas Rangers.
