Do any of you read this series?

I'm asking because I'm currently eyeball deep in book #21 - 21st Birthday. I'm about 230 pages in and really enjoying it. Even Cindy Thomas, the annoying ass Chronicle reporter, hasn't been driving me crazy like she usually does. And then, I read this:

She’d studied the map while at home, and as soon as she’d brought it to Richie, he’d started shaking his head no, saying, “You know I can’t help you with your story. But you are so nosy—”

“Inquisitive.”

“—and I know to lock my phone. Which I forgot to do.”
*

Backstory: the main lead in this series is Homicide Detective Lindsay Boxer. Her partner, Richie Conklin, is Cindy's live-in boyfriend. One of the reasons Cindy annoys me so much is because she pushes both Lindsay and Richie to give her info so she can scoop everyone on these cases. Last book, she even went so far as to get pissed off at Lindsay for not giving her info on an ongoing investigation. I thought that was bad, but now she's snooping through her boyfriend's phone to get a lead? Um...

A few paragraphs later, she confirms it:

From the density of the woodland and the narrow bike trail to her right, she felt as if she was finally homing in on the location that she’d gathered from her quick peek at Richie’s phone.*

I get going the extra mile to get that story before anyone else, but seriously? You're going to invade your boyfriend's privacy and trust for a scoop? Never mind the fact you could be putting his job in jeopardy if you do something stupid and cost him and Lindsay the case. He might be able to convince his captain that he didn't give Cindy the info, but the police chief, the mayor, and the public will be harder to win over.

Anyway... maybe I'm overreacting, but this kind of pushed me over the edge here. Hahaha. Think I'll go finish my banana and leave all y'all alone.

I think he did a lot more of the actual writing back in the early days. Maxine Paetro co-authors this series now. I was hooked by the time I realized he wasn't fully responsible.

Interesting, I'll have to see if I can find that and watch it. If nothing else, at least he's supporting children's literacy.

I like her writing but it seems like she has to put up with a lot, LOL. It must work for her, but still ... it just rubbed me wrong when I watched it. She may have been joking with some of her comments, but I am glad I don't work for him, LOL.

And bravo for his supporting children's literacy :)

I can totally understand that. Especially since I've worked (and still do) for some difficult people.

Agreed. Anything that gets kids to read and helps them succeed is a plus.
