So, in my last book post, severina2001 suggested I list all I had to read and create a poll. Not sure I've got that kind of motivation in me, but I can compromise.

These are pictures of my physical TBR piles I have downstairs. It is nowhere even close to all the books I have scattered around the damn house, but, it is a start.

2021-08-19 06.11.39 2021-08-19 06.09.31

I've started and put aside both In Europe's Shadow and The Night Olivia Fell. So, they're both a little bit read and that counts for something, right? I'm also working on getting through Stone Cross that I started a couple weeks ago and put aside when my library holds came in.

Lethal Letters - cozy mystery
Blue Flag Vols 2 & 3 - manga with a budding quadrangle
In Europe's Shadow - nonfiction, WWI & WWII history
The Night Olivia Fell - domestic thriller
Dodging & Burning - historical mystery
Why Kill the Innocent - historical British mystery
The Perfect Mother - psychological/domestic thriller
The Real Michael Swann - terrorism thriller (that's what Amazon's telling me anyway)
56 Days - quarantine murder mystery (no joke)
Razorblade Tears - mystery/thriller
Malibu Rising - women's fiction
Not a Happy Family - psychological thriller
All That We Carried - contemporary fiction
Love at First - women's fiction (LMAO, Amazon also has it listed as divorce fiction)
Facing the Dawn - contemporary fiction
From the Moon I Watched Her - coming of age fiction

This is a screenshot of what I have downloaded on my Kindle app on my phone. We won't even get into how many ebooks I have hanging out. It's shameful. In the early days, I bought every freebie I found. Hahaha.

2021-08-24 13.22.49

Frozen Ground - romantic suspense
The Whisper Man - horror/ghost thriller
Ninth House - fantasy/horror/occult
The Dark Corners of the Night - mystery
These Witches Don't Burn - YA romance/mystery
Still Life - mystery
Only the Good Indians - Native American literature
Mexican Gothic - gothic/historical fiction
These Toxic Things - serial killer thriller

And my library holds are as follows:

Heartless - Gena Showalter (paranormal romance)
Home - Martha Wells (sci-fi short stories)
Such a Quiet Place - Megan Miranda (domestic thriller)
Six Weeks to Live - Catherine McKenzie (psychological thriller)
A Hex for Danger - Esme Addison (cozy paranormal mystery)
Instructions for Dancing - Nicola Yoon (Young adult)
The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives - Kristin Miller (psychological thriller)
Twilight Man - Liz Brown (biography/memoir)
The Noise - James Patterson (mystery)

Obviously, I'll read the library books as they become available, but what would you suggest I start with next? I have one library book out right now - The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix (horror) - and am working on finishing Stone Cross. But am option to suggestions for when I finish them.

Lastly, my brother and SIL were in Austin and Dallas earlier this month and I saw this picture my brother posted to FB and had to share:

So I have not read any of the books in the photos, but I love Malibu (the place) so I vote for Malibu Rising, LOL.

Hah! As good of reasoning as any other. Malibu Rising was my BOTM selection a couple months ago and my daughter hijacked it the second she saw it. Now that she's finished with it, maybe I can read it? :D

I'm craterdweller. Go with the Malibu one. That beer has it about right about that part of Texas...lol

Taylor liked it so I'm sure I will, too. LOL! Apparently my brother was trying all the brews. :D

I haven't read any of these either. From my experience, a lot of YA books are quick reads, so if you're looking to plow through the list, those may be the way to go. And since you've already started the Blue Flag series, that might be a fun comfort read.

I agree about the YA books. I read a really cute one last month called I Hate Everyone But You and it was all told in texts, emails, and IMs.

The Blue Flag series I've been wanting to get back to. A boy likes a girl, but the girl likes a different boy. That boy likes the first boy, and the other girl, I think might like the first girl. It's going to be DRAMA but fun drama, I think.

56 Days and Mexican Gothic are my votes!

You know, I didn't think I'd even be interested in a COVID novel yet, but 56 Days sounds so good. Mexican Gothic has been on my list since it came out and I scored a good deal on it on Amazon, so bonus!

Adding these all to my list, thank you!

I just got sucked into a flash sale at audible and... My audible list is HUGE, You'd have thought I'd been using it for years.

Same, sister. I found a psychological/crime thriller called This is How I Lied and then also a Jim Gaffigan humor book called Food: A Love Story (I love him and he narrates his own books so...). All for $11.

Mine exploded once they added the Audible Plus catalogue. I have sooo damn many books. I almost wish for a longer commute. Almost.

I found Woman left behind, and I do love Linda Howard for $5. And it'll be a nice break from the junkie listening to the Bosch stuff. But yes, so much from Plus that I'll never drive far enough to get it all read. I do frequently listen at home through the tv. However while the TV will tell catch me up with other devices that I may have listened with, the phone wont so I have to be sure to end at a chapter end. WOE IS ME! If this is my biggest problem...

;)

I keep telling Sharpie that I'm going to make a road trip down to TX to see her, and that might be the only way to knock a couple off the list! I'd listen more at home if the girls weren't always around. I've put one on while in my room getting ready and it never fails to freak Violet out. She keeps looking around for the body the voice is coming out of. LOL

Definite first world problems there! (But I hear you, I hate listening via the computer app because it never syncs right.)

Are you still listening to Pride and Prejudice?

It is on pause. The weather's been gorgeous in the mornings and I have had my windows down. Which makes listening difficult on the freeway. But yes! I need to get back to it.

Yes, it is! And man, it's crazy to leave the house, decide that it's cool out, and discover it's 84º out. LOL

HA! But compared to 114, 85 is cool!

It really, really is. And when we dip into the 70's for the first time, I will break out a jacket. But, I'm a weather wimp so...

Okay. NOW I understand why a poll isn't feasible. That is.. A HECKIN LOT OF BOOKS.

56 Days is on my Possibles list for *next year*, so I selfishly pick that one just because I want to know what you think of it. Alternately, the Martha Wells one because I am curious if her other stuff is as phenomenal as Murderbot.

Date: 2021-08-26 04:09 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asphaltcowgrrl.livejournal.com
Sadly, it's only a fraction of what I have. *looks sheepish*

Do you have a copy of 56 Days? If not, I'd be happy to send you my copy when I'm done with it. :) And the Martha Wells book is actually a short story from the Murderbot series, which is why I added it to my holds.

Date: 2021-08-26 04:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] severina2001.livejournal.com
No, I don't have 56 Days. You may love it and want to keep it, though! If you do end up wanting to give it up, I would love to take it off your hands. Thanks! :)

OOOOH. I didn't know there were any other Murderbot stories. I'm off to see if my library has it now. Thanks for the heads-up!

Date: 2021-08-26 04:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asphaltcowgrrl.livejournal.com
Nope! Pretty much the only books I keep are ones that are part of a set like my R. A. Salvatore books (but those also have Todd Lockwood cover art so...) or if they're autographed. I will let you know when I'm done with it! (Or remind me if I forget.)

I want to say it's recent, but I could be wrong on that. :) Hoping they have it.

okay, great. Thanks again!

Just checked and it is actually a story that someone gave me the link for on one of my Murderbot posts. It's available on the tor.com website. Damn, I was hoping it was something I hadn't read yet. Ah well. She has contracted for 3 more Murderbot stories so I just gotta be patient!

No problem! I'm happy to share anything that doesn't go back to the library, so if I ever mention something, let me know. If it's print, I'm happy to ship it off to get it out of the house.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry to get your hopes up. Tor is great about freebies and short stories like that though. Nice! And unlike a lot of fantasy/sci-fi authors, she doesn't seem to take a decade to write a book. *glares at Patrick Rothfuss*

He's never finishing that series. It's doomed, which sucks. :/

Go read some Joe Abercrombie. He at least finishes things.

Where is the lie??? UGH.

LOL I read The First Law trilogy, and really liked it and then hated the ending. Haven't read any of his others. SO MANY BOOKS SO LITTLE TIME. (Look who I'm talking to. HAH.)

Hahaha — right? UGH.

Troy got hooked on The First Law series only to discover the third book hadn't come out in the US — and wouldn't for several more months. So, I wound up having to order it all the way from the UK to shut him up. LOL I sent the author an email about that and he responded! He was very witty and sweet to me. :D

Seriously though. I need to become independently wealthy so I can get through all my books.
