Woohoo Friday!

Man, another week has come and gone. Not a whole lot going on around here. Taylor did finally land a job at the hospital she wanted to work at, so that’s a huge bonus. She starts October 9th. Maddie’s trudging along with school and work, hanging out with her friends, too. Me? I’m just working and hanging out at home, the same as always. And the cats, well, they’re catting all over the place.
What I read:
The Silence by Kendra Elliot. Audiobook. The second in her Columbia River series and it’s pretty good.
XOXO, Cody: An Opinionated Homosexual’s Guide to Self-Love, Relationships, and Tactful Pettiness by Cody Rigsby. Better known to non-Peloton people as “Boo”, Cody is one of my favorite instructors. He’s always funny and on point, but in this memoir, he digs deep and gives you another side of him. I liked it a lot and thought that it had a lot of depth and good advice.
What I’m currently reading:
Time to Shine by Rachel Reid. A cute m/m hockey romance that has been VERY fluffy and fun so far. Hope to finish it tonight. This is an ARC that I need to finish and review soon. LOL
The Crepes of Wrath by Sarah Fox. Audiobook. Only just started it this morning so no real opinion yet, but I do like the main character so far.
What’s Next:
A Case of the Bleus by Korina Moss. Another ARC that publishes on 9/25. Good thing it’s a cozy mystery and ought to be a quick read.
The Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas. I’m getting excited for spooky season and want a good horror (or horror adjacent) novel. I loved The Hacienda, so I’m hoping this is good, too.
What I’ve been watching:
Spirited Away – an old Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki animated film. It was one of Taylor’s favorites when she was little and I had a hankering to watch it.
Alt-Right: The Age of Rage. Stumbled onto this on a streaming service and thought it’d be interesting. It was also infuriating, but yanno.
Enemies: The President, Justice, and the FBI. A four-part mini-series that starts with Watergate, moves to the Iran-Contra Affair, to the many scandals during the Clinton Administration, and on to Trump. It was very enlightening because I was born during Watergate (’74) and was a kid during the whole Iran-Contra Affair. I was also a teen/young adult during most of Clinton’s BS, so I was vaguely aware of his mess, but didn’t know a lot of details.
The Good Place – Taylor was looking for something short to watch the other night and I finally – after several years of trying – convinced her to watch it with me. YAY! We only got through the first episode, but she laughed several times and said she didn’t hate it.
The Night Agent – still working on this with Taylor as well. She’s dog sitting for my in-laws so it’s on hold for now.
Only Murders in the Building – This is a weekly thing and is on hold, too, I suppose until Taylor’s done dog sitting.
What’s up next:
Not sure. I ordered a DVD of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, since all the Harry Potter watching got me wanting to see Gary Oldman in something else. I have some other DVDs to watch, so maybe I’ll plow through them instead of streaming something.
Oh, lastly, I found this neat app called Bookmory that allows you to track your reading. And, at the end of the month or whenever, you can produce a graphic showing what you’ve been reading:
Isn’t that neat?
Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend.

Date: 2023-09-18 07:09 pm (UTC)I love Gary Oldman as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter movies and he's so good in so many others, too. I think I've seen that one, will have to look and see if it's streaming anywhere.
It's become a fun little distraction for me. :D Aw, read at your own pace. You have lots going on as it is!

Date: 2023-09-18 02:17 am (UTC)I envy your ability to read so much. I wonder if I might read more if/when I get to retire. Right now I have so many words to tackle for web copy, marketing copy, emails, training one-sheets and excel sheets that my brain revolts at reading. But... I am trying. I picked up the Oppenheimer bio American Promethus from my local library, and that copy of What We Owe to Each Other came in! Both will be slow going, but I'm launching into them.
Along with my Trek watch, I started The Bear on Hulu today. Not exactly my cup of tea but it is compelling. The main character did some silent face acting at the end of E1 that made my brain shout "Young Dustin Hoffman- the Graduate." Thats a little reductionist, maybe, but I got that vibe in a good way. The side characters see fun except for the horrible cousin. Will see how it goes. I hear there is a good amount of REM music in it.
On we go to late September!

Date: 2023-09-18 05:14 pm (UTC)I can totally understand that! Honestly, I think I'm finally starting to make up for all that time I couldn't read when the kids were little. LOL Hey, read what you want when you want and just enjoy it. Don't worry about anyone else. :D Hope you enjoy both of the ones you have.
The Bear can be... a lot. But it wound up being so good. The relationship that develops between Carmen and Sydney is really great and Richie does have some fantastic character growth by the end of season 2. I do get what you mean though — the actor who plays Carmen has a really expressive face and often doesn't need to say anything to get his point across. Hope you love it!

Date: 2023-09-20 03:36 am (UTC)oh wow- just read today that the actor playing Carmen is Gene Wilder's grandson! Yikes. That doesn't make me feel old at all, not even a little, nope, nope, nope! 😅
Watched E2. Still hooked, though all the screaming at each other is very off-putting for me.
Gonna keep at it, though. There has to be an episode where they don't mostly scream at each other....right?

Date: 2023-09-20 06:04 pm (UTC)OMG, I wonder if that's why I kept looking at him and wondering WHYYYY he looked so familiar?
Once they finally get through some of their own personal BS, the constant yelling does taper off. It made it hard for me to watch, too. It is worth it if you can push through though.

Date: 2023-09-18 04:51 am (UTC)I have read and enjoyed Sarah Fox's Literary Pub mystery series. I will be interested in what you think about the Crepes of Wrath. Because I wouldn't mind reading more from her as I have really loved her other series.
That app sounds like a lot of fun. I'll have to check it out.

Date: 2023-09-18 05:06 pm (UTC)Thank you! She's thrilled to finally have a job as a nurse.
So far, I'm really enjoying it and I'm about halfway through. I'll have to check out the other series as well. Love a good cozy series.
It has been. But I'm also goofy enough to love seeing that I've read multiple books on multiple days. 🤣

Date: 2023-09-18 03:39 pm (UTC)LOL! Nope, she still has two years for her degree. However, her boss did pay her $30 to draw up a quick floor plan of their restaurant when he was thinking about changing things up.
