Small, stupid rant

asphaltcowgrrlI am really, really fucking tired of being shamed and made fun of becuase I can't hack really cold weather. It is 47 here right now and I'm freezing. Whoever turned on my space heater yesterday did it for me again today. I owe them a hug or a coffee or something.
But this particular east coaster I talk to laughed at me for saying I was cold at 49 yesterday and how she'd be wearing shorts and a tank top. Okay, um, good for you? Why don't you come visit me in July when we're pushing 117 and see how well you handle the heat?
I know, I know, I shouldn't let this bother me as much as it does, but I am so damn touchy about this subject. A lot of it stems from being told by my former boss always saying, "You can't possibly be cold" when I'm sitting directly under the AC vent and he's dropped the temp down to 68º. But also, everyone is different. I thrive in the heat, but not everyone likes the dry, hot summers we have here. I don't ridicule them for complaining. Troy used to call me a freak of nature because I wouldn't use my AC for most of the summer.
Anyway, sorry about this. I had to get it out before I told the wrong person to STFU and let me be cold. Hahaha.

Now my kids wearing puffy coats at 60 degrees and sweatshirts at 30 really makes me wonder. In addition, they wear the sweatshirts in the summer... when I'm dying of the heat. So yeah... they need to STFU.

Date: 2026-02-21 04:33 am (UTC)Temperature tolerance is entirely individual and has about fifteen different factors- which is why office life can be hell. I used to sit at my office desk with a blanket over my legs in the summer because of the way the AC was cranked.
I don't like the way people compete over temps and snowfall levels. I've lived most of my life eight degrees south of the line where the sub-arctic begins. I try to mostly only ever talk about how much it sucks for me. Lolol.
My cousin gives my Uncle in FLA crap. I told Uncle Ed that I get it — the blood thins in warmer weather. It did for me when I lived below the Mason Dixon.

Date: 2026-02-23 10:20 pm (UTC)Man, in our old office we have two AC units and during the summer, they were set at like 68 because the guys would come in from that Vegas heat and drop it down to Arctic temps. LOL I just don't understand why you can't let me be cold even if you're sweltering. Didn't realize it was such a major character flaw of mine!
Hahaha! I've seen your pics, I can't imagine living where you do. But the lady I wrote this post about has been going on and on about the 'blizzard of '78' for about 2 weeks now. I get it, woman. You got a shit ton of snow when I was 4. Time to move on.
Absolutely. I had a cousin who moved from Illinois to Florida and daily she was on FB whining and being nasty about people who were wearing light jackets in the 60 degree weather. Like that's cold for a near-tropical location.

Date: 2026-02-23 07:11 pm (UTC)Far out. I'd be complaining if it was 47ºF too (8ºC). It's all relative. As you say, not everyone is suited to the extreme heat either. I hate the cold and it rarely drops as low as 8ºC where I live, but I'm still complaining when it's somewhere around 13ºC... And even in this climate, we have disagreements over what each person can stand. I find the AC at work too cold most of the time and will be wearing an extra layer in summer (and remove it once outdoors) , while my husband is sweating and has his fan turned on. I particularly do NOT like fan or other cool/cold wind blowing right at me; I can only put up with that if it's warm.
You might find NZ cool in March — bring a cardigan/sweater/sweatshirt/jacket of some kind!

Date: 2026-02-25 11:18 pm (UTC)Oh we definitely have that here. Even when the weather is mild, someone's hot or someone's cold. So yeah, it's all very subjective, but some people have to be 'right' about everything. LOL
I just looked at your weather for the next week and it looks like it'll be beautiful. But you're right, I'll definitely bring a light jacket or hoodie with me.
