I AM SO EXCITED. XD

First of all, I love getting ARC's (advanced reader copies). LOVE. IT. I know it's selfish, but I get all giddy when I have a book in my hands months before it's released to the general public. I'm just a jerk that way.
(Hmmm... maybe it was a good thing I put on my *nice shoes* this morning?)
And then, to sweeten the pot, since the book came directly from the author (who lives in my town even!!!), it was autographed.
I'm beyond stoked, right? So, then I read the note she tucked into the book (about giving an honset review, talking about it on social media, etc.), I realize SHE REMEMBERS ME. Whaaaaaaaaaaat? It's been probably three years and SHE KNEW WHO I WAS. I can't even.
*deep breaths*
So, in other, less braggy news... I discovered that my husband (which I knew) and my 13-year-old (which I probably should have realized) have been playing Neverwinter. He on the Xbox, she on her laptop. While my husband was playing on Sunday, she kept asking him a million questions and - to my shock - he wasn't annoyed! They were having an actual conversation over this game. And then me, being the idiot that I am, have to pipe in and say, "You know... one of my favorite authors writes books set in Neverwinter." My book-loving teen's ears perk up and she basically says, "GIMME". Unfortunately, I didn't have the first book in the series - Gauntlgrym - so we bought it for her. This makes me happy in so many ways, but mostly because I can share something I love so much (R. A. Salvatore and Drizzt) with her and she can share Neverwinter with her father. It's a win-win.
As a side note, my other child, Taylor, got a subscription to Vogue magazine since she won't read. Le sigh.

Aw, and I love that your daughter is having bonding moments with both you and her father! That's so sweet. :D I love when parents and children find a common interest to bridge the generation gap. For me and my father it's the stock market because we're nerds like that. XD

Date: 2015-04-08 08:06 pm (UTC)I know, I get soooooo freaked out when an author signs a book for me. I'm thankful to have a shelf full of them. :) D'aw... you're so sweet. :D
I totally agree. She and I are so alike that we bond over the strangest things, but to see her have something to share with her dad makes me all melty inside. :) That's too funny about you and your dad. But hey - whatever brings you together, right? For me and mine, it was baseball. Even if he was a Cardinals fan and I've always been a Cubs fan (they're big time rivals LOL).

Date: 2015-04-11 02:52 am (UTC)Hee, I don't know what Neverwinter is, but I can imagine the glee all around at the discoveries, conversation and reading too!
Pity about the Vogue, but at least it does have words... ;-)

Date: 2015-04-13 08:30 pm (UTC)Neverwinter is a PC/Xbox/whatever game based in the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms worlds. But to see my husband and a kid he says is so much like me haivng something in common like that makes me happy. :)
Hah. Yeah, well, she's my little fashionista in training, so it doesn't really surprise me much.
