Weirdness

I think I might have encountered my first soverign citizen on the road today.

They're doing construction on the freeway (because I mean, what else is NDOT ever doing?), so the going was slow as I approached my exit ramp.  Caught a glimpse of an odd license plate on a car in the next lane.  On second glance, it simply said AMERICA across the top instead of the usual state.  It had a US flag on the left side and 8 digits/letters instead of Nevada's usual 6.  Since they were beside me and not next to me, I couldn't see if it had the usual 'not for hire' and other sov cit BS on it or not.

Just so bizarre. I knew we had those nutjobs here, but I thought they'd all be either up north in the red areas of the state or in Nye County with all the other wannabe rednecks.  Not in the heart of Las Vegas.  Hahaha.

For those of you out of the loop, American sovereign citizens claim that the United States federal government is illegitimate.  Therefore, they don't have to pay taxes, register their cars, etc.  I mean, I feel ya, boo, the US government is a hot ass mess right now, but really?

So, there's your weird bit for the day.  Also, Wikipedia tells me this isn't unique to the US, there are sov cits in Canada, Australia, and the UK as well.  Finally, some batsit craziness that is not central to the US.  HAH.

(I love how Spotify will sometimes find the most appropriate songs to be playing when I'm writing crazy posts.)

Ideas?

I help out a friend who runs a book reivew site by doing odds and ends to help engage visitors.

One of the things I'd been doing was posting questions of the week on Facebook.  However, since I dumped Facebook a couple of weeks ago, I offered to help drive engagement to the actual site by posting blogs of various kinds once a week.

My friend suggested personality quizzes (like which Harry Potter house are you) and posting my results.  Or I suggested things like current TV shows I'm watching, movies, and seasonal recipes.

Which is a good start, but if I'm going to be doing this weekly, I'm going to need more ideas so things don't get stale.  Which is why I'm here, y'all.  What kind of questions/posts would make you likely to leave a comment and/or engage in conversation?  It's a book site, so I'm thinking the bookish posts might be covered with the reviews, author interviews, Top Ten Tuesday posts, etc.  So, I'm looking for things outside of books, or things vaguely related to books but not books (like Fable Grounds Coffee or Frostbeard candles).

Also, if you're interested, I can post a link here on Thursdays so you can go check the posts out (and comment if you like, no pressure), but only if you're interested.

So, um, hit me with your best shot?

Was greeted with an update on my coworker when I got here this morning.

Brain cancer.  The doctor gives him about a month.

I am so sad.

Thank you for listening, both yesterday and today.  Now, to start payroll and make a vet appointment for Gideon.  It's only 7:42 and I'm already done.

I've been on edge all day and couldn't figure out why.  Day's been fine.  No one has asked to get bitch slapped, there weren't any angry, demanding emails, and Chad the Donut Guy (lol - he works for a vendor and comes by once a week, usually on Wednesdays, with donuts) came a day early.

And yet, I've been anxious, fidgety, and out of sorts.

Come noon, I get a call from a local hospital asking if we have an employee by the name of X.  I say, yes, and the nurse (I presume, he didn't actually say) tells me that X is in their facility in the neuro ICU.  "He's politely confused, ma'am," is what he told me.  Well, he's Canadian so...  But yeah, so it's like my anxiety is psychic or something, I guess, because this was not on my 2025 bingo card (nor was renaming the Gulf of Mexico, buying Greenland, or annexing Canada, but here we go, FFS).

Talked to his sister a bit ago and she says it doesn't sound good.  This makes me so horribly sad.  He's such a kind person.  Quick with a joke, always a good listener.  Even once told me he was named after a Canadian hockey legend. I just barely pulled through the last two months with what would have been my 27th wedding annversary, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the fifth anniversary of Troy's death.  The lone bright spot in there was Miss Madison's 23rd birthday on Saturday.  The rest has been... a challenge.

I can't handle it if something happens to him.  You work with someone for 27 years, they become a part of you.  Even if you aren't close, even if you only talk for a few minutes a day. So, this is me, putting good stuff out into the universe for him and for anyone else who needs it.  You have all my good vibes, hopes, wishes, and dreams.

Hopefully, I didn't bring anyone down with this, but I had to get it out.  I can't talk to anyone here, becuase Rhett and Brian are keeping it quiet until they know more.  As they should, it's no one's business and damn but the men in this place are nosy.  Hahaha.

Have a fantastic Tuesday evening (or Wednesday morning if you're H) and hopefully it isn't half as windy where you are as it is here currently.

I was scrolling Reddit this morning and came across a post that said, "F- your favorite song, tell me your absolute least favorite song."  And the replies were interesting.Sing me home )

Title: A Day in the Life
Fandom: Romani Detective Original Fiction

Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2,716
Summary: A look into a normal weekend for Andrej.
Author’s Note: Written for the bingo challenge at 1_million_words.  Even though it’s late, I still wanted to finish and post this.  Chose the slice of life 3x3 card #2.  Prompts used: busy day, free space (family dinner), package delivery, and lawn and garden.
I read the news today, oh boy )

Yeah, I know, bingo ended on 11/30, but I've been struggling, so I made a last ditch effort over the weekend.  I'll try and finish off this card, but no promises.

In an effort to try and motivate myself again, I caved and grabbed a bingo card.  Wish me luck.

I use Google Translate a lot.  Mostly to make sure what I'm typing is correct, but also to translate song titles.  I have a lot of non-Englist artists in my Spotify library due to trying to learn various languages.  Also, Eurovision.  But I digress.

I was translating the title of a Romanian song this morning and noticed this.

2024-12-03

Who knew that Google Translate had Romani as one of its languages?  Not me, for sure.  Otherwise, that would have been getting some use.  Hahaha.  And as an interesting side not, the Q'eqchi' langauge is apparently a Mayan language spoken in Mexico, Guatamala, and Belize.

Okay, enough of my idiocy.  Hope you're having a fantastic Tuesday and that it's not too terribly cold where you are today.

Title: What Not to Wear
Fandom: Montreal Heat Original Ficiton
Pairing: Gen
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 654
Summary: Chase has a team building exercise and he doesn’t know what to wear.
Author’s Notes: Written for the slice of life 3x3 #2 card.  The prompt was ‘favorite old sweater’ and, since I’m watching the VGK vs. Winnipeg, I went the obvious route.  Fun fact: one of my co-workers told me he was named after Gordie Howe.  Yes, he is Canadian.

Fandom: Romani Detective Original Fiction
Pairing: James Rosewood/Zayne Reyes
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 2,103
Summary: James and Zayne are at the mall when Zayne has an odd encounter.
Author’s Notes: Written for the weekend challenge at 1_million_words.  Zayne got chosen to meet Santa, but did he, really?  Also, excuse any typos or errors.  I want to get this posted before I leave work today.  It’s 1:16 PM on the day before Thanksgiving and… proofreading is going to have to wait.  Hah.  (Be kind and point out my mistakes so I can fix ‘em.)  Oh, and there’s also like zero point to this story, so sorry?
Santa? )

I'm writing a note when the phone rings.  I glance at the caller ID and it reads SPARE so that means it's either Joel (the plumber, not my nemisis) or Victor. I answer the phone as usual, but keep writing my note.

Nothing.

"Hello?"

"What the hell, Amy," Victor says.  "You sound different.  You aren't sick are you?"

Well, um good morning to you, mister?  😂

BTW, this is the same guy who sends me gifs whenever he needs something from me.

At least my monrning started out with a laugh, could have been worse.

When someone responds to an email you've sent and puts their response in the subject line, rather than in the body of the email.

Why?

There's your petty moment for the day. 🤣🤣🤣

Have a fantastic Monday, y'all.
